How to Modern 1920s Flapper Finger Wave Hair (1)

Step 1: Part and Section Your Hair

Go for a side parting and section away the top. As a quick tip, to get the top hair sectioned off, imagine a line going from ear to ear and use it as a guide. Secure the hair with a band or clip.

Step 2: Time for Pigtails

Split the remaining hair into two and create pigtails. Secure with hair bands and curl them loosely with a curling wand or tong.

Step 3: Release the Top Section

It’s time to release the top section of your hair and divide it into two again: Top and bottom. Pin your new middle layer away.

Step 4: Curling the Top Layer

Curl one parting of the top layer towards your face and the other one away from it. Make sure the strands you curl are about the width of your finger. With every curl you release, scrunch and pin in place while it’s still warm.

Step 5: Curling the Middle Layer

Once you have completed curling the top section and pinned the curls in place (looking good!), you can move on to the middle layer. Follow the same steps as you did with the top layer – curl one part towards your face and the other away from it, scrunch and pin while warm.

Step 6: The Waiting Game

Allow at least 15 minutes for the curls to cool down.

Step 7: Release the Hair

Unclip all of your curls and break them up using your fingers. Brush forward the part you curled towards your face, and brush the other part away from the face.

Step 8: Create the 1920s Flapper Finger Wave Shape

Switch to a smoothing brush and use it to create an S shape in your curl while taming the flyaways. Once you are happy with the shape, pin the curl in the places where there is a kink with a large hair clip. Doing so will help to set the 1920s flapper finger wave curl. Do it on all sections and fix with hairspray.
