Why does it seem that your time of the month comes around quicker than other monthly joys like pay day?! Periods can be a pain, both literally and figuratively and you can rest assured it’s going to turn up when you least want it!
Looking forward to a summer holiday? Planning on going to a festival and camping under the stars for a few days? Yup. There’s a chance your period will be there with you too!
Of course, it is not the end of the world if the two occasions coincide, but ladies, we can all admit it would be rather nice not to have to deal with it from time to time!
Luckily, there is now something we can do about it and it’s called Norethisterone.
How does Norethisterone work?
Norethisterone is a pill that you can take to delay your period which contains a synthetic form of progesterone. In your normal menstrual cycle, periods happen when your levels of oestrogen and progesterone drop. When you take Norethisterone, it extends the cycle, delaying your period.
Pretty straight forward, hey?! For Norethisterone to work effectively, you need to take the pill 3 times a day, starting 3 days before your period is due. This will delay your period until 3 days after you take your last pill.
Aim to take the pill the same time each day. We recommend setting an alarm on your phone to remind you. After all, if you’re chilling by the pool in Spain, we wouldn’t blame you for forgetting! If you do forget, you cannot double up on your next one.
You can consider Norethisterone if:
You want to delay your period for no more than 20 days
You are looking for a method to use only occasionally
You can predict when your period is due
You are NOT on the contraceptive pill
You are NOT pregnant
You are NOT experiencing abnormal bleeding
You do NOT have a hormone dependent cancer.
You have NOT suffered from jaundice or pemphigoid gestationalis during pregnancy
You are NOT diagnosed with porphyria
You are NOT allergic to anything in Utovlan/Northethisterone tablets
You have NO liver problems, have never suffered from angina and don’t have a history of blood clots. Find out more information here.
Are there any side effects?
As with any medication, side effects are an unfortunate possibility. We recommend you read the leaflet that arrives with your pills to fully understand what might occur or head to our website for more information.
