Over the past ten years, we’ve seen hair trends come and go. Now, while some may leave you asking, ‘what on earth were we thinking’, others would still look as on point today as they did back in the day!
So, get ready to take a stroll down hairdo memory lane with us as we’re showcasing some of the most trend-led hair do’s from the past decade! And who knows, it may inspire you for your next trip to the salon!
2011: Half Up Do
In 2011, millions of people watched as Kate Middleton finally married her Prince! But, while the world obsessed over her dress and veil, her sleek hairdo didn’t go unnoticed either! The royal-ready-do would go on to become one of her signature looks, which obviously meant it was seen absolutely everywhere in 2011. We love this look as it works for any hair type or length.
2012: Top Knot
2012 was the year of the celeb-inspired top knot! Spotted on the likes of Kim K, Miranda Kerr, and Cara Delavigne, it was the ultimate in messy chic. The best thing about it? There was no perfect formula for creating the top knot; you simply twist, wrap, tie, and you’re good to go!
2014: Ombre Hair
Queen B (a.k.a Bey, a.k.a Beyonce) was, and will always be a natural trendsetter, so when she rocked up to the Grammy’s in 2014 with dark to light ombre hair, it’s no wonder anyone who was anybody was rushing to their stylist to recreate the look! It later paved way for more blended styles like balayage.
2016: The Lob
In 2016, we were blessed with being able to enjoy the best of both worlds in the form of the lob. Neither long nor short, ‘the long bob’ allowed anyone who had cut their hair into a bob to grow it out while still looking stylish and on-trend.
2017: Pixie Crop
Oh, so timeless! The pixie crop has a habit of cropping (no pun intended… okay, maybe a little!) up year after year on celebs who are looking for that ‘wow factor’. Depending on how you style it, the pixie crop could look effortless, chic, and classy. Now that’s a versatile do!
2018: Blunt Bob
Taking inspiration from the 1920s, but with its own modern twist, the jaw length cut from 2018 gives us total boss babe vibes! The sleek do is created using as few layers as possible, and we reckon we’ll see this trend come round time and time again!
2019: Long Ponytail
Ponytails may be one of the easiest hairstyles to master, but did you even give it a go in 2019 if it wasn’t created with uber long hair extensions? Ariana Grande, we thank you! Learn how to create the perfect ponytail with our tutorial here.
2020: The Shag
Effortlessly glamorous and easy to maintain, we can see why the updated version of the 70s shag made a comeback in 2020! Featuring lots of choppy layers, all you need to do is add texture with a spritz of sea salt spray, and you’re set to take on the day!
