How to Achieve the Perfect Pastel Red Using Pick & Mix?

Using Pick & Mix is not only easy, it’s also heaps of fun. Bring your unique colour to life by mixing different hues from the range with each other or with the Chalk Finish.

To get the perfect pastel red, mix 1 part Pick & Mix red colourant to 9 parts Chalk Finish.

Quick note: You will get the closest colour match result if your hair is naturally light blonde or you have bleached it. Using semi-permanent dye on darker hair may result in a less intense colour or simply a subtle tint, which can also look fantastic if this is the style you are looking for. The best thing to do is a strand test to make sure you are happy with the outcome.

It’s also worth adding that you should always do a patch test to check if you are allergic to any of the ingredients within the dye.

Now that you have the right shade, it’s time to go pastel red!

Step 1: Brush Through

Wash your hair 24 or 48 hours before. Doing so will help make the dye cling onto your hair more easily. Go for the middle parting. Make sure your hair is brushed through and tangle-free. If you can, wear an old T-shirt or top that you don’t mind getting some dye on – just in case.

Step 2: Towel Time

Pop a towel around your shoulders. Go for a basic one as it will most likely end up with hair dye all over it. Secure it with a pin.

Step 3: Section Your Hair

Section your hair into four parts. This will help to make sure all of your hair is covered with semi-permanent dye. We don’t want any missing strands!

Step 4: Paint It Red

Protect your hands by wearing gloves – rubber, vinyl or latex ones will do the trick. Starting with the back section of your hair, begin to dye it pastel red using a brush.

Step 5: Massage and Even Out

Once you have covered each part with semi-permanent hair dye, massage the hair to even out the amount of colourant on each section.

Step 6: Focus on the Roots

To avoid any missing patches, paint your roots in sections last. This will let you see any gaps in the colouring that you can easily cover.

Step 7: Spread and Even Out Again

Just like you did with the hair lengths and ends, spread and even out the dye on the roots by massaging the hair.

Top Tip!

If you notice the dye dripping on to your face and skin around your ears, simply take it off with a wet cloth or a makeup remover pad.

Step 8: Wait and Wash

Wait for 30 minutes before shampooing and conditioning your hair thoroughly. Finish with a cold rinse. Once you’ve washed your hair, blow dry and style.
