Step-by-Step: Achieving Hair Twists
Step 1: Condition your hair
Make sure your hair is conditioned and moisturised. When applying conditioner, focus on the ends and make your way up to the roots, distributing the product evenly.
Step 2: Brush through your hair using a wide-toothed comb
Using a wide-toothed comb, brush through your hair making sure there are no knots or tangles. Start at the ends and work your way towards the roots. If it’s easier, work in sections.
Step 3: Part your hair
Use a tail comb to part your hair. You can section in the middle or go for a side parting. If you have decided on a side parting, part on the side at the front, bring the parting to the centre and part in the middle at the back.
The Simple Hair Twist
Step 1: Start small
Grab a small section at the front and start to twist it.
Step 2: Pass the hair from one hand to the other
As you are twisting, pass the hair on from one hand to the other and grab the baby hairs with your thumb, pushing them in. Use the index finger to push the locks in from the other side. This way you can make sure your twist is as tight as possible.
Step 3: Add edge control as needed
To tidy up the twist, add edge control for a truly neat finish.
Step 4: Split the hair into two as you get to the bottom and twist them around
When you get to the bottom, split the hair into two and start twisting each strand separately and then wrap them around each other.
The Advanced Hair Twist
Step 1: Take two hair strands at the front
Grab two hair strands at the front of your head, one that’s closest to the parting and the other right next to the first one.
Step 2: Start twisting them away from the face
Start to twist the two strands away from the face. This means that you will be bringing your hair up, and as you do this, grab more hair around where the twist is going.
Step 3: … And repeat
Keep flattening your hair with your hand and repeat the motion all the way to the bottom.
Step 4: Twist each strand one at a time
Once you’re at the bottom, twist the strands – one at a time – and wrap both around.
Step 5: Neaten and add edge control
To make sure your hair is flat and neat, apply edge control and use a bristle brush and lay your finger on top of the hair.
Looking lovely!
Enjoy your new hair twists!
Top Tip: What to Do If a Twist Gets Loose
Tie up with a hair band to secure and once again go for two strands. Twist one in one direction and the other in the opposite direction. Once you’ve done that, wrap them around each other.
