Crazy about the 90s? Who isn’t?! Telly was waaaay better and, when it came to hair inspo, shows like Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Saved By The Bell were the gifts that just kept on giving – we’re talkin’ butterfly clips and scrunchies galore! That’s why we decided to shake up our back-to-school hairstyles this year and give them a bit of 90s spice. If you wanna know how to recreate these iconic ’dos from your fave progs, just keep reading – and yes, there will be crimping…

For those of us who didn’t receive our Hogwarts letters, waking up on your 16^th birthday and realising you were a witch was the next best thing. Magical powers aside, Sabrina (unlike Hermione) always seemed to have good hair, too… which seems unfair tbh. Since the ship has well and truly sailed for an education in magic, we thought we’d at least show you all how to recreate Sabrina’s iconic, super-simple butterfly clip hairstyle…

Give your locks a good spritz with some of the Style Expertise Heat Styling Spray to protect your hair from damage.
Section your hair and give it a going over with some straighteners to work out any waves and curls.
Take small sections (about 1-inch thick) from around your hairline and pin them back individually using butterfly grips. You’ll want a line of clips going up and over the top of your head, from one ear to the other.

That’s So Raven

Again, with the powers! Apart from being able to see the future, Raven Baxter, everyone’s favourite psychic, used to give us major hair envy with her fun and funky ’dos. She’s probs one of the only people (aside from Hit Me Baby One More Time Britney) who could pull off pigtails with such sass, so we thought we’d rise to the challenge and give it a go.

Create a middle parting that goes from your front hairline right the way down to the nape of your neck. Try to keep this as neat as possible for a more polished look and leave out any shorter layers you might have at the front to frame your face.
Tie each half of your hair into high pigtails using some scrunchies.
Cover a comb with some of the Cantu Shea Butter Hair Dressing Pomade and brush your roots in towards where your hair is tied to neaten up any bumps and flyaways.

At last, someone #relateable. No magic powers, just an ordinary girl and her cartoon alter ego. Even if you didn’t absolutely LOVE Lizzie McGuire and her clumsy ways, you can’t deny that the girl had some major moments with her hair. From mini space buns to bandanas and headbands, she had it all going on. But we’ve all dubbed her queen of the crimp because, let’s be honest, that’s exactly what she was.

Since we’re using heat, you’ll want to give your hair a spritz with Style Expertise Heat Styling Spray. Then split your hair into a bottom and a top layer, clipping the top one out of your way, to make crimping easier.
Take 3-inch sections from the bottom and start crimping your hair with the BaByliss Pro Crimper 210. Simply clamp the tool down on the section you want to crimp. For that Lizzie McGuire moment, you’ll want to leave space between your crimped sections and try to make them line up around your whole head.
Repeat this process on the top layer until all of your hair is crimped to perfection! Spray with Superdrug Ultra Firm Hold Hairspray to keep the texture in place all day.
Because one bobby pin just wasn’t enough in the ’90s, use three or four to pin one side behind your ear (what was with that style anyway?!).

Finally, we have to talk about fashionista Lisa Turtle from Saved By The Bell. Aside from rocking shoulder pads on a regular basis, she also slayed the super-fluffy high pony that everyone seemed to love in the 90s. And who better to take back-to-school inspo from than the sass queen of high school?

Tie your hair into a super-high ponytail and secure with a scrunchie. Lisa always had a fringe, so leave some hair out at the front and sweep it to one side to frame your face.
Fluff out your pony by pulling and teasing with your hands or even backcomb a little to get that Lisa level of volume.
