Doing your bit for the planet doesn’t end after you’ve switched to reusable straws. There are so many changes we could all make to lessen our impact on our planet. We’ve watched the documentaries (gotta love David Attenborough), and we’ve heard you all loud and clear. You want to do better - and so do we. Let’s see how a few simple tweaks here and there can help make your beauty routine more environmentally friendly.
Recycle & Upcycle Your Empties
There’s a lot of pressure on the beauty world to create more sustainable products, from what goes in them to how they’re packaged and ultimately thrown away. We’ve got continuous plans to improve our practices and have set ourselves goals to keep us on track. Did you know, by the end of 2021, 90% of all of our Own Brand products will be widely recyclable?
But while the industry makes strides towards a better tomorrow, there are still ways you can put packaging to better use today. The first is to recycle it. Whenever you spot a recycling logo (the three arrows in a shape of a triangle), you can pop it in your recycling bin hassle-free. Sometimes not all of the container can be recycled, so be sure to check the packaging for any disclaimers about lids, pumps etc. We make this as transparent on all of our Own Brand products as possible for the ultimate peace of mind as part of our pledge to part with plastics.
For products that are still a work in progress, you can avoid chucking them in the bin by getting more life out of them. Go creative and upcycle non-recyclable packaging. From plant pots to storage containers, there’s a beauty hack out there for every empty.
Swap Single-Use Products For Reusable Products
Where you can, try to limit using disposable products. For example, swapping swipe-and-bin cotton pads for eco-friendly reusable pads. Investing in longer-lasting tools like a blending sponge instead of old-school makeup sponges. Or swapping out plastic bottles of shampoo for a reusable shampoo bar. We know that some reusable products may need a teeny bit more TLC (it usually involves some extra washing, really), but your conscience will thank you in the long run.
Do Your Research
Nowadays it’s easier than ever to find out everything you need to know about a brand or a product before adding to basket. A quick online search or skim-read of the packaging later and you should be able to find out whether the product is sustainably sourced.
We are constantly finding new ways to make this information more accessible to you and have even banned the use of certain ingredients in our brand products because of the impact to the environment. Discover more about how we sustainably source ingredients and products, here.
Be Mindful
Making changes to your beauty regime can go further than scrutinising the products you have on your shelf. Try to incorporate changes to your everyday life, too, like shopping in-store with reusable canvas totes or limiting your water use during your daily shower. It’s these little acts that add up over time - being mindful can go a long way.
We practice what we preach.
