How to: crystal skull Halloween makeup

Does your go-to Halloween vibe involve throwing on your mum’s old sheets and sticking white face paint all over ya? Well, it’s time to take your ancient duvet to the charity shop ’cause Danny Defreitas is taking the standard skull look from freak to chic. And your inner contouring queen will be screaming with delight as this one is all about sharp angles, shading in and loads of crystals. Channel your inner MUA with this frighteningly fabulous crystal skull makeup look…

Step 1. Build your base

Starting from just underneath your eyes, dab the Revolution Pro Foundation Drops F1 over the skin and down to the jawline. You can do this with a beauty sponge.

Time to put your GCSE art skills to good use - starting from the corner of your mouth, use an eyeliner pencil, like B. Pro Duo Eyeliner in Black, to draw a sharp line upwards and follow the curve of the cheekbone. Repeat on the other side.

Step 3. White as bones

Use a beauty sponge to fill in the areas above the line with NIP+FAB Make Up Foundation 30ml Light Mixer. Get all those nooks and crannies: you want your whole face to look like an ivory canvas. The trick? Try your best to colour within the lines – this look is all about the sharp edges.

Step 4. Powder power

Dip a powder brush into the Revolution Pro Loose Finishing Powder and dust over the base to set the makeup. The next step? Pat B. Cassie Lomas Glitter Pigment on top to add some sparkle.

Step 5. Palette magic

Here is where we get creative… to get that sallow skull look, we’re going to contour with the purple and pink shades in the Revolution Pro Regeneration Mischief Matte Palette. Apply the dark-purple eyeshadow to the lid and go over again with a pink eyeshadow.

Use an eyeshadow brush to dust more purple shadow under the eyes and blend out the colour with the pink shade.

Step 6. Contour and contour again

Still using the same eyeshadow palette, follow your frown lines with the purple shadow, and pat pink eyeshadow under the eyes. Contour your nose, hairline and your drawn-on jawline with purple and pink shadow. This is all about freestyling and having a bit of fun, so let your creativity run free!

Step 7. Mesmer-eyes

Outline the lower lash line with a black liner and cover those lashes in MUA Eye Define Mascara in Black.

Step 8. Add some bite

What would any night out be without an ombré lip? Start by outlining the lips with a dark-purple liquid lip (try GOSH Liquid Matte Lips in Arabian Night), then fill in the empty patch with a lighter shade, like Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick in Heartbeat.

Step 9. Diamonds are forever

The finishing touch? Crystals, of course! It may be Halloween but you still want to sparkle like the gem that you are. Use eyelash glue to stick jewels across the brows, bridge of the nose and the top of the lips.
