Although we like to think it’s International Women’s Day every day (‘cos it basically is, right?) there is in fact a special day every year to mark the occasion.
What’s International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day goes back just over 100 years when in 1909, women were campaigning for the right to vote. Today, we continue to mark the day and the work being done towards gender equality, and this year’s campaign is focusing exactly on that. The #ChooseToChallenge campaign highlights that a challenged world is an alert world, and from challenge comes change.
However, International Women’s Day is also about celebrating the achievement of amazing women worldwide. So, this year we’re putting a spotlight on some of the brilliant boss ladies who have founded and created beauty brands we can’t get enough of!
1. Lottie Tomlinson creator of Tanologist
At the age of just 21, Lottie Tomlinson was in demand by some of the world's biggest beauty brands, had over 3 million loyal Instagram followers, and of course, she had launched her very own successful tanning brand Tanologist. This glam girl boss is an utter inspiration!
Kudos to this beautiful lady, not just for bringing Tanologist into our lives but for proving that age is nothing but a number when it comes to smashing your goals!

2. Farah Naz founder of EX1 Cosmetics
When Farah Naz constantly struggled to find a foundation to match her skin tone, she decided to take matters into her own hands instead of just waiting for someone else to do something about it.
As a trained biochemist, Farah started to rethink the pigments used in the beauty industry. The end result of her hard work? EX1 Cosmetics! A ground-breaking range of foundations that recognise olive skin with a range of undertones that have been worn on the red carpet by Kim Kardashian-West, Kylie Jenner, Adele, Chrissie Tiegan, and so many more!
Farah is an impeccable example that if you want something badly enough, then hard work and dedication will get you there!

3. Lucie Anderson CEO of Woo Woo
A few years ago, Lucie found herself standing in the women’s hygiene aisle, staring in disbelief at the products on offer to her. Why was ‘care down there’ and women’s sexuality still such a taboo, still so hush hush and lacklustre?
This lightbulb moment kickstarted her 2-year journey to launch Woo Woo - a range of female hygiene and safe sex products created by women for women.
But don’t be fooled; Woo Woo is more than just a fun product range. Lucie and her team want to help women feel more confident when discussing sexual health, less worried about their sexual history and more focused on pleasure. And quite frankly, we think there need to be more Lucie’s in the world! From women everywhere, Lucie, we thank you!

4. Sam & Nic Chapman founders of Real Techniques
Before Sam and Nic Chapman became known as YouTuber’s PixiWoo, they were well-established makeup artists working for globally recognised brands such as Chanel and MAC. However, in 2008 they uploaded their first YouTube video, and everything was about to change.
After just a few years, PixiWoo’s channel had grown to tens of thousands of followers, and the ladies played a huge part in the rise of how we consumed beauty content online. However, the ladies didn’t stop there!
Their Real Techniques brush collection was launched in 2011, and today, we’re still in love with the amazing quality of the ladies’ products and their content (which is now uploaded to their channel with over 2 million subscribers!)

5. Ariana Grande creator of Ariana Grande Perfumes
How could we have a list of the ultimate boss ladies without mentioning Ariana Grande?! As if being a pop superstar and all-round qween wasn’t enough, Ariana turned her attention to perfumes back in 2015 with the release of her signature scent Ari.
Ariana has released many more fragrances since Ari and has completely blown ‘celebrity fragrances’ out of the water! ‘Thank you, Next’ is the ultimate female empowerment scent of being optimistic, looking up and being your best damn brave self! And her latest, R.E.Mis an intergalactic dream of feminity and power!
