Winter days have a nasty habit of taking their toll on our health. If you’ve come down with a serious case of the sniffles and are feeling under the weather, it’s very likely your skin is suffering too! From a dried-out complexion to a sore red nose, this season can really do a number on your skin. If you’re currently rocking a more run down than runway look right now, our top tips are here to save your skin from those winter woes.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
When you're lacking energy and feeling run down, it’s quite easy for your usual skincare regime to go out the window but its important to keep replenishing your skin; especially around the nose where constant contact with a tissue may have left it red and sore. Not a good look! Remember to moisturise morning and night, plus any time you can in-between to replace the moisture zapped out by the dry winter air.
Show your skin some TLC
Be gentle on your skin, it’s suffering enough already! Swap any abrasive exfoliates or cleansers from your routine for a gentler version. Try chemical exfoliates (don’t let the name put you off - it’s a friendly ingredient!) with AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) which gently dissolve the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin instead of scrubbing them off, so you can say hello to happy, healthy skin once again!
Sleep on it
The idea of ‘beauty sleep’ really isn’t a myth; our skin does some of its best work while we’re enjoying forty winks! It’s rejuvenating, restoring and repairing all while we dream so it’s important to get those recommended 8 hours a night.
Top skin loving ingredients you MUST try
Let’s start with ceramides. These are lipids that help form the skin’s barrier and retain its moisture. So, super important at this time of year.
Jojoba oil is your go-to friend to resolve irritated, dry skin. It’s really gentle and can be used on even the most sensitive of skin. A few drops can keep you moisturised for hours - hooray!
The powerhouse of moisturising agents, say hello and add hyaluronic acid to your regime, like, now!
The product that can do no wrong! Coconut oil works wonders on every part of your body from your hair to your finger nails, but it’s especially fantastic at restoring your dried, winter skin back to it’s former glory!
