Lucy Campbell – Britain’s Women’s Surfing Champion is NIVEA UK Sustainability Ambassador
In her role as sustainability ambassador for NIVEA UK, Lucy is calling for increased awareness of the damage that plastic is doing to our ocean.
“I’m lucky that my job allows me to spend my life in the ocean,” she says. “Every day, I experience this natural resource that is so vital to the survival of our planet. What’s difficult, though, is the visibility of plastic pollution – it’s truly heart breaking to see the damage it is doing to our ocean.
I am determined to change things, in my role as NIVEA UK’s sustainability ambassador. Whether the changes made are big or small, if everyone takes a little step, we’re on step closer to saving our seas”
Our Little Steps Big Strides Campaign is all around communicating how small adjustments and changes in our behaviour and conscious shopping has the potential to create big impact when we come together. Here are just a few examples of Little Steps that you can take with NIVEA.
What Are Vegan Cosmetics?
The term ‘vegan cosmetics’ refers to skincare products. Make-up and toiletries such as body and face washes, that do not contain animal-derived ingredients. There are many ingredients, which are made from what animals produce, such as beeswax, honey or milk. When sourced responsibly, these ingredients are renewable solutions, which are not only gentle to your skin but also to the animals who made them.
At the same time, some ingredients can be made from by-products of livestock farming for food production. In this context, the treatment of animals concerns many consumers. There are environmental issues, for example deforestation to clear up more grazing land. With large-scale livestock farming significantly driving climate change, NIVEA takes these concerns seriously.
For many people, animal-derived ingredients do not reflect the values of living in harmony with animals. That is why they look for alternatives, such as vegan and plant-based skincare products.

Is NIVEA’s plastic recyclable?
At NIVEA, we aim for circularity and responsible use of packaging material to prevent pollution and reduce our carbon footprint. Our approach is as simple as it is challenging: we reduce plastic wherever possible, recycle plastic as much as we can, replace it when it makes sense and encourage our customers to reuse packaging.
Our new deo sticks use lightweight packaging: saving 17% plastic* compared to previous INVEA deodorant sticks. NIVEA’s Roll On’s are made of glass – in turn cutting down our plastic useage.

Our Commitments To Care Beyond Skin
Our Sustainability Commitments
As a leading skincare brand with more than 100 years of expertise, we know that a healthy environment is important for healthy skin. Yet, our blue planet’s natural beauty is suffering from over consumption of resources and environmental pollution. That is why we at NIVEA are committed to reducing our impact on the environment, it’s ecosystems and inhabitant by developing and producing skincare that is gentle on the skin and the planet.
Respecting Animals
NIVEA believes that part of caring for the planet also means respecting the animals we share it with. While many people hold this belief, there is still uncertainty around labels and hat cruelty-free skincare or cruelty free cosmetics means. At NIVEA we want to be transparent about how we care for the well-being of animals; we have a clear position against animal testing, and we offer a large range of vegan skincare products, 100% free of animal-derived ingredients.
Our Responsible Sourcing
We make sure that everything we put into our NIVEA products is safe and healthy to use – we strive to use responsibly sourced renewable materials whenever possible to move towards a more sustainable future. When using natural resources, we also pay attention to the cultivation of these plants.
Our Sustainable Production
Naturally, our commitment to protect our planet and our communities also extends to the way we produce NIVEA skincare. We strive to decrease our CO2 footprint by saving energy, generating less waste and using water responsibly.
