Today we’re sharing top tips from Jess MacKenzie (@_jessyoga) on how you can create your own morning routine to help you get your body and mind ready for the rest of the day.
Firstly, why is setting up a morning routine so important?
Mornings can be difficult for a lot of people. At this time of year it can be hard to stay positive about the day ahead especially when it’s dark and cold outside and all you want to do is curl back up and grab a few extra hours of sleep.
However, setting a morning routine can be an easy and effective way to get your day started in the right way and kick start those positive vibes!
Morning Yoga
According to the Vedic Tradition, early in the morning is a spiritually charged time of the day, making it the perfect time to reconnect with your body and take part in a yoga flow. Not only is yoga a great way to help improve your posture and move your body in a gentle and relaxed way, but it can also help reduce stress, clear your mind and energize your body for the rest of the day.
With a hectic morning schedule, finding the time for a quiet 30 minutes can be hard! Jess has her own YouTube series with a range of yoga classes for beginners to experts, allowing you to pick a time that suits you best to take part in this soothing session.
Journaling
For Jess, jotting down her thoughts into her journal is an essential, non-negotiable part of her morning routine. For some, journaling can be a very effective way to reduce stress management and clear a busy mind. Others use it as a way to problem-solve, with solutions being found more easily once it’s all down on paper. Some studies suggest that writing in a journal can even lead to a better night’s sleep, more self-confidence and a higher IQ!
For Jess, spending five to ten minutes every morning journaling is a great way to remind herself of all the things in her life that she is thankful for.
Be Kind to Yourself
While a morning routine can be a great way to set yourself up to take on the day, it’s also just as important to be kind to yourself throughout the day. Whilst working from home, Jess tries to make her surroundings as calm and relaxing as possible so that her mind also stays that way. Herbal teas, lots of water and using Essential Oils all help Jess keep her mind and body happy.
