Omega 3
What is Omega 3? Omega 3 are a group of essential fatty acids which you can only consume through diet and eating oily fish, or through vitamins and supplements. Your body cannot produce these on its own. To consume omega 3 through your diet you should eat fatty fish, fish oil, flax seeds, chia seed, flax oil and walnuts. If you struggle incorporating these foods into your diet though and think you may have low omega 3 levels as a result of it, you should be consuming omega-3 supplements.
What does omega 3 do?
Omega 3 fish oil plays an important part in the development of your brain and retina. It is particularly important for pregnant and breastfeeding women to consume sufficient amounts of omega as it can affect the development of their baby. It has also been found to have health benefits in adulthood too, with brain and eye health, as well as heart disease, inflammation and many other benefits.
How much omega 3 should I have?
It is recommended by the government you consume at least 1 portion of oily fish a week to incorporate vital fish oils into your diet. If you struggle to achieve this and need some additional help, omega 3 tablets will subsidise this. In terms of omega 3 tablets, it is recommended you take 1 omega-3 tablet a day, however omega tablets can come in different strengths, so always read the label before consuming. You can also incorporate fish oil into your diet with the assistance of cod liver oil tablets as these contain omega too, and are also a good source of vitamin D.
